Attack of Arty Von Spicypants

Attack of Arty Von Spicypants

This week the art room was attacked by Arty Von Spicypants. Kindergarten and First grade were welcomed by a note on the whiteboard challenging them to come up with at least two different ways to attach paper together without glue or tape. Sewing and folding were the two most popular solutions. I believe Mr. Von Spicypants will soon be returning our glue and tape. Way to go Kindergarten and First grade

A call for junk!!

A call for junk.

With the construction center up and running and amazing art work being created we are starting to run low on some supplies. If you have any of these items laying around your house I would gladly take them off of your hands.

I am looking for:

Paper towel tubes
Plastic containers of any size
Beads
Fabric scraps
Yarn
Plastic or metal hangers
Plastic baby food jars
Plastic water bottles
Old Crayons
Popsicle Sticks
Pencils
Anything else you may think I could use

Thank you for all of your help and support.

Student butterfly lesson

We are three days into our transition into tab. Everything is going wonderfully. Negative behavior issues have almost become non existent. Students are incredibly excited about the work that they are doing. "I can't wait to take this home and show this to my mom" is a very common phrase. Discussion among students has shifted towards art rather then what they are going to do after school. The kids are even teaching each other!!!

1st grade student "M" has been creating beautiful construction paper butterflies. They are so amazing that other students have been asking her how to make them. She gladly demonstrates the process and helps them create their own. She labels each step numerically for her students. I love to see this kind of artistic behavior.

Photos from my second day with TAB

This student found out you can wear art.

There was a long story on how her brother likes guns so she likes guns.

A gift for mom.

I am not sure of the story behind this one.

"Mr. B. can you help me? I want it to stand. This is what I was thinking."

He had it all figured out. He just needed reassurance that it would work.

Day 1!!!

Yesterday I opened up my drawing, construction and manipulative stations with my kinders and first graders. In my kindergarten class the construction station filled up quickly, however the crowd dispersed as the class period went on. Everything went successfully. One student showed his classmates how to create “bats” by attaching a black piece of construction paper to a blue piece of construction paper with string. Everyone was extremely excited and can’t wait until next week. I think that this was the first time every student took their projects home!!!!
The first grade class I have on Mondays has been trying to say the least. Today was amazing. Only a few students didn’t want to share but threats of having to work at the TEACHER STATION quickly alleviated those issues. I cant wait to see what today brings.

Welcome!!!

Welcome To Belle Creek Charter School's art department. Over the next few months I will be attempting to transition the art room into an integrated T.A.B and Core Knowledge based classroom. Currently I teach K-8th grade with just the Core Knowledge Curriculum. Due to my crazy schedule this year I will only be making this transition with my kindergartners and first grade. Second semester I will be transitioning my Middle School students into a more T.A.B based curriculum. Wish me luck I am sure that there will be bumps in the road.
